Armor of God: Helmet of Salvation – By Courtney Barnes
Armor of God: Helmet of Salvation
When my kids were little, I used to say this funny thing: “I lost my mind when I got pregnant with my first, and haven’t found it since!” It brought many laughs from fellow mommy friends, and momentarily filled my tank. I was secretly trying my hand at stand up comedy and I don’t think I even realized it. Probably some deep seeded thing to get the right kind of laughter when I controlled it, rather than be laughed at by the bullies of my childhood?
Several years ago, in my faith journey, I heard some incredible teachings by several different people regarding our thoughts and beliefs and partnering with what God thinks and believes about ME! Wendy Backlund puts it this way, “Your brain spends all day looking for proof of what you believe.” What have you trained your brain to believe?
I stopped saying “I lost my mind,” and began declaring over myself “I have the mind of Christ!” I literally stopped believing the truth I was creating by continuing to say “I lost my mind.” My brain was spending the day looking for the proof of that positive declaration I was speaking over myself, rather than proving that I lost my mind.
These are some of the verses that I began to study to build my new beliefs:
1 Corinthians 2:16 (New Living Translation)”For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.”
The Passion Translation (TPT) has this note:
a. 1 Corinthians 2:16 That is, we believers possess the Holy Spirit, who reveals the thoughts and purposes of Christ. The revelation of the kingdom of God that Jesus preached was not understood by the intellect of men but by those who welcomed his truth. Humanly speaking, no one can understand the mysteries of God without the Holy Spirit. Those who have the Holy Spirit now possess the perceptions of Christ’s mind and can implement his purposes on the earth.
We must Take Every Thought Captive!
2 Corinthians 10:5-6: “We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience of the Anointed One. Since we are armed with such dynamic weaponry, we strand ready to punish any trace of rebellion, as soon as you choose complete obedience.” (TPT)
“We capture, like prisoners of war” such a powerful way to put that! We are in a spiritual battle that’s bigger than us! But God is always fighting for us! On our side! He’s for us! Who can be against us?? “We are armed with dynamic weaponry.” What weaponry is this? The Armor of God! Ephesians 6 talks all about this armor. Each day we should be putting this on! Every part of our physical and spiritual bodies are covered!
Paul says this in Ephesians 6:10-13,17
“Now My beloved ones, I have saved these most important truths for last: Be supernaturally infused with strength through your life-union with the Lord Jesus. Stand victorious with the force of his explosive power flowing in and through you.”
What power is this? The Holy Spirit!!
“Put on God’s complete set of armor provided for us, so that you will be protected as you fight against the evil strategies of the accuser! Your hand-to-hand combat is not with human beings, but with the highest principalities and authorities operating in rebellion under the heavenly realms. For the are a powerful class of demon-gods and evil spirits that hold this dark world in vondage. Because of this, you must wear all the armor that God provides so you’re protected as you confront the slanderer, for you are destined for all things and will rise victorious.” (TPT)
Put on the complete set! The whole thing. Don’t leave anything off! Everyday! You must wear all the armor that God provides. It’s imperative! There is a promise in there! You are destined for all things and you WILL RISE victorious!!! But we must choose to submit ourselves, partner with the Holy Spirit and put on the armor everyday!! Will you choose to believe the promises of God and put on His armor that He provides. He does it. We have the power to choose.
Verse 17: “Embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance. Like a helmet to protect your thoughts from lies.” (TPT)
You’ve been fully delivered when you were saved- you fight FROM victory, not for it!!
We must protect our thoughts from lies by putting on the helmet of salvation, and realizing that salvation’s not just about whether or not we go to heaven. Yes that’s part of it! But another reality of it is living fully in the here and now, filled with power and protection of our mind so that we do not believe the lies of satan. The BIble says that satan’s goal is to steal, kill, and destroy us, and he will do that in whatever ways necessary.
1 Thessalonians 5:8 “But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet that confidence of our salvation.” (TPT)
The Bible always says we can have confidence in our salvation. Confidence is defined as the full trust, belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing. We can fully trust in our salvation, because Jesus gave it to us, and He is trustworthy and reliable! He is GOOD!
Priscillia Shirer says “Salvation was meant to come with more than future benefits. It was also supposed to exert a startlingly clear impact on our present, daily life. But this impact will only be experienced to the extent that we apply the benefits of salvation to our everyday lives. Receiving salvation is not the same as applying salvation. The first redeems us; the second restores, protects, and shields us daily from the attacks of the enemy.”
As you wake up each day, make a choice to put on the Armor that God makes accessible to us. His Protection over every area of our physical and spiritual bodies and lives. Go through each piece. It could become a very amazing encounter with the Lord! Praying for everyone who reads this! That you come to a greater level of understanding about your thoughts, how powerful they are, and how to partner with God daily, to take every thought captive, and put on His amazing protective armor and walk it out, with HIS power in and through us!
