Redemption Story
When I was a young girl, a neighbor came to our house and told my Dad about Jesus. We started going to church. I liked church, except whenever the pastor talked about “end times,” I would always cry and go to the altar because I was so afraid of ending up in Hell. I can’t tell you how many times I told God I was sorry, and yet didn’t even know why.
Fast forward to the teenage years when I was part of the popular crowd, doing things I knew was wrong to fit in and knowing it grieved the Holy Spirit. At first, it bothered me. There came a point when it no longer did. I was really good at “christianese” and faking my Christian walk when needed. This went on until I was 19. In my heart, I knew I had walked away from the Lord and thought “I will jump back over to the right side when I thought the end might be near.” Kid you not.
Then, I became engaged. Rob and I were encouraged to go to church. We did as we needed a place to get married. I had no idea the Lord was tugging on Rob’s heart and he would decide to accept Jesus as his Savior. He was changed and devoted his life to following Christ. I went back to pretending again and am sad to say that I was very convincing. So much so that we agreed to be baptized.
While standing on the ladder of the pool watching Rob profess Christ as his Savior, I heard the Lord say to me, “and how will you answer?” I had to stop lying to others, to myself and to the Lord, and I asked Jesus to help me to begin again and that I wanted to make Him the Lord of my life from then on. The Holy Spirit is always speaking; we just need to be ready to listen. I have never regretted that decision and shudder to think of where I would be today without the Father’s redeeming love.
Father, I pray that anyone who may have walked away from Your love or may have never experienced Your redeeming love, this would be the day they call upon the name of Jesus to be saved. Let them know it is that simple. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Acts 2:21 – And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
