Have you ever looked into a mirror and started pointing out your flaws to yourself and wishing you looked differently? I may be the only one who has done this, but I seriously doubt it. Part of the reason could be that I listened to criticism from others and began to believe what they had been speaking to me. Negativity can have such a toxic effect on someone’s self-esteem. So much so that when someone gives a compliment, you think they are just being nice and basically, lying.
For years, I would not say “thank you” when someone gave me a compliment because deep down in my heart, I just didn’t believe they were being honest. How could they be? After all, I did not see what they saw in me. I would repeatedly point out my flaws. I am getting better at receiving compliments, but still have some work to do in this area.
At the beginning of this year, I went on a “journey” with some women in our church. It challenged me to go deeper and examine who Christ says that I am – how He made me and what His plan is for my life. It was through this study that I realized I am His masterpiece. His creation! I started feeling the heartbreak of God every time I would not accept a compliment or kind word. It was as if I was telling God that He made a mistake. Our Father makes NO mistakes. Just like a snowflake, we are all beautiful in our own way and design.
I am so blessed to have a tribe of ladies who are continuously encouraging me and always reminding me that I am a daughter of The King; a true princess in the Body of Christ.
May this passage become a prayer of thanksgiving to the One who crafted us into who we are! Thank you, Abba – (13) You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside and my intricate outside, and wove them all together in my mother’s womb. (14) I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex! Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking. It simply amazes me to think about it! How thoroughly you know me, Lord! (15) You even formed every bone in my body when you created me in the secret place; carefully, skillfully you shaped me from nothing to something. Psalm 139:13-15 (TPT).
Remember that we are valued and loved by God. So much so that He sent His Son to die for us so that we may have life (John 3:16).
